9 Month Appointment

Posted by Chelsea on Friday Jul 3, 2009 Under Infancy

Lucy had her 9 month appointment on Monday. It was a difficult appointment for Mommy. Lucy has always been little but at this weigh-in she slipped to under the 5th percentile for weight which concerns the doctor. It’s hard to hear that your doctor is concerned. Lucy is a great eater, the teachers at daycare have even commented that she’s probably going to be one of those people that can eat and eat and eat and never gain weight-kinda like her Dad. With all this eating she’s still only 15 pounds. Here were her stats:

Height: 27 Inches ~50th Percentile
Weight: 15 pounds even >5th Percentile
Head Circumference: 17.75 inches ~80th Percentile

Lucy has always had allergies or sensitivities. We can only use a certain kind of detergent, we can’t use wipes on her, only Huggies and 7th Generation diapers don’t give her a rash, most bath products give her a rash, when I eat milk it gives her a rash and on and on. I tried giving her yogurt at 7 months and she got a rash and eczema so we’ve been avoiding dairy. She also got a rash from soy formula and I thought a rash from wheat. I explained all of this to the doctor and he said that it didn’t sound like typical allergy symptoms and more like “sensitivities”. He would rather we deal with the rashes and give her a wide variety of food than limit her food intake. To be sure though, he got blood drawn and tested her for allergies. Lucy handled the blood draw like a champ-that was not fun-they take it out of their arm just like on an adult 🙁 Her tests came back yesterday and she showed no allergies. I gave her wheat yesterday and today with no issue. I gave her some soy formula ~4 ounce the entire week (when I don’t pump enough) and she did get a rash on her chin but not too terribly bad. I’m starting to eat dairy again and I think I’m going to try dairy again with her on Sunday.

To tell the truth, I left her appointment on Monday in tears. It was a hard day. But, I am feeling much better about things and since then I started really pushing the solids. Before her appointment here was a typical day for Lucy:

~6:30 AM Nurse
~8:30 AM 2 ounces of fruit mixed with 1/8 cup cereal
~10:30 AM 5 ounces of Breastmilk
~12:30 PM 4 ounces vegetables with 1/2 ounce protein (chicken, beef, or beans) and some veggies as finger foods
~1:30 PM 5 ounces of Breastmilk
~4:30 PM 5 ounces of Breastmilk
~6 PM Nurse
~6:30 PM 2 ounces of Vegetables, some protein and rice puffs as finger foods
~7:30 Nurse

And then she wakes up usually once to nurse in the middle of the night.

Well NOW she’s getting more than double the solids and still is taking the same amount of milk:

~6:30 AM Nurse
~8:30 AM 4 ounces of fruit mixed with 1/4 cup cereal
~10:30 AM 5 ounces of Breastmilk
~12:30 PM 4 ounces vegetables with 1 ounce protein (chicken, beef, or beans) with 1/4 Avocado and 2 tsp of olive oil mixed in and 1/4 cup rice mixed in and some veggies as finger foods
~1:30 PM 5 ounces of Breastmilk
~3:30 PM 2 ounces of fruit (new!)
~4:30 PM 5 ounces of Breastmilk
~6 PM Nurse
~6:30 PM 4 ounces of Vegetables mixed with 1/4 avocado and 2 tsp olive oil plus rice cereal, some protein and rice puffs as finger foods
~7:30 Nurse

Yes our little 15 pounder is eating ALL OF THAT! 1/2 an avocado a day!!! Insanity I tell you!!!

I’m feeling better about things and what I keep coming back to is that developmentally she’s doing wonderfully! She’s ahead of the curve in a lot of respects or right on the curve. She’s still not crawling but I’m okay with that!!! This week alone she’s gained 3 new signs. She now signs for: “More”, “All Done”, and “Change”. She’s been signing for “Milk” for a few months now. She’s also making more sounds-“Ma Ma Ma Ma” (only sometimes), “Ne Ne Ne Ne” (when she’s hungry), “OH” (when she drops something), and of course her favorite “Da Da Da Da”. She’s also clapping (and making noise!) and dancing. She becomes more and more like a kid everyday!

Now, to the pictures!

Chels…it’s always hard to imagine something wrong (no matter the severity) with our little ones. I’m glad that the doc went ahead and did the blood test .. you now have peace of mind and that is priceless! Have a wonderful weekend!

I’m happy that her Dr. is on top of things and that he did the blood tests, he’s a wonderful Dr. and I know the tests put your mind at rest. When PaPa heard about the fuss he reacted like a typical Grandpa, he said, “There’s nothing wrong with our girl, she’s just going to be a little peanut!” Of course, she is perfect just the way she is and we are totally unbiased! I must say she’s one of the smartest babies I’ve ever been around and cuuute! Yes Chelsea, she melts our hearts, thanks so much for sharing. The pictures are great but MiMi needs a Lucy (and Chelsea-Bug) fix soon! Much Love, MiMi 🙂

The picture of her with Shaun looking at the waves is *priceless*. Seriously… it could be the front of a Father’s Day Card.
